Congress leader Rahul Gandhi picked up on the emerging trend for migrant workers to flee Delhi, Mumbai and other major cities again in a grim reminder of last year’s migrant crisis.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi wrote: “The migrants are fleeing again. In such a situation, it is the responsibility of the central government to deposit money into their bank accounts to help them. But a blaming government has the audience for the corona crown broadcast been so helpful? “
The remark comes at a time when thousands of migrant workers flock Delhi’s Anand Vihar bus terminus to return to their home states after CM Arvind Kejriwal announced a weeklong lockdown to verify the spread of Covid-19.
According to PTI, police officials said more than 5,000 people had gathered at Anand Vihar, including the ISBT and the train station, and that the numbers were increasing.
Thousands of men and women have been seen rushing to the bus terminus, cluttering sidewalks and bridges in scenes similar to 2020, when the national lockdown triggered a similar migration between states.
